I'm sure you've heard me say before that opals can be a little persnickety to care for, so when you them at this age with no flaws, you know that they have been well loved and respected. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFirst and foremost, the opals are Australian and have beautiful play of color. Each one of them has the highly coveted red silica flashes and are beautifully matched. What I really love about this brooch are the gorgeous and very clean old mine cut diamonds that surround the main opal. Some of them even look to be Peruzzi cut, which is everybody's fave. I could get lost in these diamonds and these opals. I would estimate that there is approximately 2.25 CTW of old cut diamonds. The main opal measures 16 x 15.5 and his beautiful transparency and as I mentioned before amazing play of color. It's always hard to capture that in videos, so imagine my video amped up times four. This could be made into a beautiful pendant, but it makes me very happy that the original pin is still attached. Like most brooches of this this era, this one appears to be multifunctional. It appears that the center can be removed from the outer halo, but I haven't figured out how that could be done. I just love knowing that it's a possible option.
